Oakley Capital acquires majority stake in cPanel PDF Print E-mail

Oakley Capital’s WebPros BV group is acquiring a majority stake in cPanel, the Linux-based web hosting automation software platform.

Founded by Nick Koston in 1997, cPanel provides automation tools and GUI to help users easily manage their websites and hosting accounts. The cPanel comes with a set of rich features to enable the customers to administer all the facets of a website using easier point and click software.

The acquisition of cPanel is part of Oakley’s strategy to acquire leading internet infrastructure software businesses. It also invested significantly in its WebPros BV group to acquire Plesk and SolusVM.

The companies said that new transaction will enable significant investment in new product and feature innovation and support the growth of cPanel platform to offer an improved user experience.

Oakley will invest $50 million into WebPros as a part of this transaction, which is subject to regulatory approval. cPanel has more than 220 employees, with customers in over 70 countries. The company will remain headquartered in Houston, Texas, with Nick continuing as CEO.
